Chantal Kreviazuk was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  She is of Ukrainian and Pakistani ancestry.  A singer-songwriter, Kreviazuk is also a classically-trained pianist and guitar player. She credits her success to growing up in the Winnipeg area, where the summers were hot and the winters were bitterly cold.  Without much to do, she developed her inner resources and learned to entertain herself with music at a young age.

Her life has been a litany of tragedies, but she continues to perform and write music for movies and television shows.  Her songwriting has brought success for many other performers, but she is admired by Canadians largely for her courage in the face of adversity.

In 1994, Kreviazuk endured multiple jaw and leg fractures in a serious motorcycle accident in Italy spending several months in hospital recuperating.  During her recovery, she turned to her piano to create music and found the connection that led to her dynamic music career.  She believes as many of us do:  Everything happens for a reason.  There can be many inspirational and growth opportunities when life takes a turn for the worse.

She appeared on the Armageddon movie soundtrack with her smash hit remake of "Leaving in a Jet Plane," which gave Kreviazuk a break into the American music industry.

Later in life, she began to use her success to tirelessly raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
