While we may never know if "Blinding Lights" is about Bella Hadid, his former girlfriend,  Bella Hadid.  The Weeknd has offered some insight into the emotion behind the song. "'Blinding Lights."  It may be about how you want to see someone at night, and you're intoxicated, and you're driving to this person and streetlights just blind you," the singer told Esquire. "But nothing could stop you from trying to go see that person, because you're so lonely.

I don't want to ever promote drunk driving, but that's what the dark undertone is." By looking at the lyrics of the song, it's easy to make sense of his explanation: "I'm blinded by the lights/ No, I can't sleep until I feel your touch."
